Because they are hand made, the stability of the dyes used varies, and is not as consistent as say, machine made rugs. Sometimes, certain colors may be over-dyed in order to achieve a certain depth of color. In addition, not all dyes are of the same quality and many do not color deep inside the hair mantle. The color only attaches on the surface of the hair, causing the dye to bleed when the rug becomes wet. With an untrained hand, this could spell disaster for the rug. For these reasons, washing precious rug requires a lot of experience and knowledge about techniques to do so properly and safely.
